LITTLE ROCK AIR FORCE BASE, Ark. -- Air Mobility Command and the Airlift/Tanker Association recognized the 913th Airlift Group and an Airman from the 19th Airlift Wing during the 55th Airlift/Tanker Association Symposium in Grapevine, Texas, Nov. 9-12, 2023.

The awards encapsulate a broad spectrum of individuals who exemplify outstanding leadership, excellence, and valor in the performance of their duties within the field of air mobility operations.

Master Sgt. Timothy Gillespie, 19th Security Forces Squadron flight chief, was one of 12 recipients of the Young Leadership award. This award recognizes 12 individuals of all ranks who will likely become future leaders within the air mobility community.

Gillespie was recognized for his work as the weapons and tactics NCO in charge where he established the squadron’s first weapons and tactics program, developing procedures for eight trainers across four flights in the squadron. He also collaborated with the 19th Operations Group and 19th Maintenance Group to optimize anti-hijacking procedures in protection of Little Rock AFB’s C-130 fleet, which is the largest in the world.

“To me, these awards are not won alone. You first have to do the work, then have a leadership team that cares and does their part to get Airmen recognized,” said Gillespie. “I am very grateful to the leadership team here at the 19th SFS for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to excel.”

The 913th AG received the Lieutenant General James E. Sherrard III Award at the symposium which recognizes the most outstanding Air Force Reserve wing or group that distinguishes itself in the performance and support of the Mobility Air Forces mission.

The 913th AG is comprised of six squadrons and group staff, encompassing 20 different officer Air Force Specialty Codes and 53 different enlisted AFSCs, and is responsible for providing tactical airlift capabilities in support of global operations. The 913th AG plays a vital role in enhancing the overall readiness of the U.S. Air Force. As a reserve unit, it works in conjunction with active-duty units to provide a seamless and effective response to national security needs.
