U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Christopher Edgington, 19th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron C-130J crew chief, marshals a new C-130J aircraft prior to a welcoming ceremony held at Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., June 20, 2016. The aircraft was the final J-model delivered to the 19th Airlift Wing from Lockheed Martin. On Jan. 1, 2016, the 913th Airlift Group’s active association designation officially changed to a classic association. Airmen assigned to the 913th AG, Air Force Reserve Command, are currently providing support to the 41st Airlift Squadron and 61st Airlift Squadron and may soon be flying and providing maintenance support for this aircraft. The 913 Airlift Group is transitioning from the C-130H to C-130J. The C-130J is the latest addition to the C-130 fleet and incorporates state-of-the-art technology, which reduces manpower requirements, lowers operating and support costs, and provides life-cycle cost savings over earlier C-130 models. Compared to older C-130s, the J model climbs faster and higher, flies farther at a higher cruise speed, and takes off and lands in a shorter distance. The C-130J-30 is a stretch version, adding 15 feet to the fuselage, increasing usable space in the cargo compartment. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Scott Poe)
